Junior Chamber International Labuan (“JCI Labuan) 2009 president elected

The JCI Labuan 2009 Board of Directors was elected at the annual general meeting on 7th December 2008 at Mariner Hotel. JC William Yap was appointed president for 2009. His predecessor JC Joyce Tan handed over the chain of office to take up her legal duties as past president.

The New President

JC William Yap was introduced to JCI Labuan by a friend and has been an active member of JCI Labuan for three years. He was appointed secretary in 2007 and vice president in 2008.

‘JCI gives young people the opportunity to do something for their community and to enrich their social and personal lives. It opens doors to new experiences and challenges in a welcome and friendly environment. There is so much to gain from getting involved in such a diverse organisation. My ambition as president of JCI Labuan in 2009 is to broaden the scope of appeal, to attract new ideas and fresh thinking.’

Board of Directors Announced

Other members elected to the 2009 Board of Directors (“BOD”) were JC Yolanda Ang, Vice president; JC Francis Chong, Treasurer; JC Goh Boon Chea, Secretary; JC Goh Yen Chong, General legal council; JC Elizabeth Wong, Commission Director Internal; and JC Teo Seh Ai, Internal auditor.

Plans for 2009

2009 will be a busy year for JCI Labuan both nationally and internationally. The Area Sabah Convention will take place in Kota Kinabalu in June and the Annual National Convention over the weekend of the 12th October in Ipoh. This year World Congress will take place in Tunis, Tunisia in November where the next world president will be elected.

At a local level, JCI Labuan is well known for its community involvement, sports and social, development and training events and it hopes to initiate new ideas this year.

Monthly Meetings

The Educational Visit to Antara Steel Mill Sdn. Bhd.













Since the last visit to Gold Coin Feedmills (S) Sdn Bhd, in conjunction of Junior Chamber Week, Junior Chamber International Labuan have successfully organised another educational visit in Labuan to Antara Steel Mills Sdn Bhd on 16th August 2008.

Antara Steel Mills Sdn Bhd is wholly owned by The Lion Group. The Lion Group owns several public listed companies in the world, such as in China , Indonesia , Singapore & Malaysia . The Lion Group owns various kinds of businesses, not only in the heavy industrial sector but also in plantations, electronics, etc. The Lion Group’s founder, Mr. William Cheng, is also generous in supporting the welfare of the society. Scholarships, donations, etc. are provided under The Lion Group.

The visitation was not only to JCI members but also open for the general public. There were 18 participants, who comprised of 10 members from JCI Labuan, a member from JCI Lahad Datu and 7 non JCI members.

During the visit, Antara Steel Mills Sdn Bhd’s Assistant Manager of the Operation Engineering Department, Mr. Johnny Wong gave a briefing about the company’s background and also the production process of steel. The production process of steel is environment friendly and all can be recycled. Besides that, JCI Labuan and visitors were also given a chance to visit the control room for processing steel.

At the end of the visit, the Organising Chairlady, JC Elizabeth Wong, presented a bannerette on behalf of JCI Labuan as a souvenir to Antara Steel Mills Sdn Bhd, accepted by Mr. Johnny Wong.

JCI Labuan will continue to organize more educational visits in future in order for the society to take part and gain more knowledge in the various industries as well as skills in management.

educational visit to Gold Coin Feedmills (S) Sdn. Bhd

In conjunction with Junior Chamber Week, Junior Chamber International Labuan have successfully organised an educational visit to Gold Coin Feedmills (S) Sdn. Bhd.; one of Asia’s oldest and most successful feed manufacturing group of companies located in Labuan.

The educational visit was made up of 18 people, consisting 10 JCI members and 8 non-JCI members. During the visit, they were taken around the feed mills and given a talk on the operations and production of the feed mills by production manager, Mr Chin Shin Siong.

Fellow visitors were given the chance to participate on the packaging of flour as well as tour the feed mill’s control room, where they observed a sophisticated computer used to monitor production.

At the end of the visit, the Organising Chairman, JC Kim Ling Kuan presented a bannerette on behalf of JCI Labuan, as souvenir to Mr Chin Shin Siong, who accepted it on behalf of Gold Coin Feedmills (S) Sdn. Bhd. JCI Labuan encourages its members to hone their leadership skills through the organising and chairing of events.

The Leadership Skill Training














The Leadership Training was conducted on 3pm at Mariner Hotel Conference room. The speaker is the JCIM International Affairs Director, JC Daniel Wong. Organising Chairperson is JC Sabrina Aripen. This training is purpose to enhance the individual skill in the organization.

10 members had attended this training. The training starts with the warming up dance for the members. It is very joy and fun. JC Daniel conducts the training in a very interesting way such as sharing his ideas and opinion, given some example, asking ideas from us and telling some jokes too. This training is not bored and very interesting. The training end with photo session and refreshment.

JCI Labuan hope will create more awareness among young generation of Labuan - to give them a chance to explore the wonderful aspect and opportunities that JCI Organisation has to offer.

26th Installation and Awards Banquet


26th Installation and Awards Banquet of JCI Labuan was held on 7:00pm at Water Front Hotel. JCI Labuan had invited Pengarah from Jabatan Belia dan Sukan, Puan Hajjah Zawiah Bte Muhammad for gracing this event.

Beside that, JCI Labuan also invited the National Executive Vice President JC Bonnaventure Kilos, National Vice President Assigned JC Lim Yit Joon and also National Vice President JC Carl Dompok to be the witness of this ceremony. There are also JCI members from other chapters such as JCI KK, JCI Intan, JCI Penanmpang, JCI Tanjung Aru and JCI Tawau attending this event.

The ceremony starts with the National Anthem. Then the address by the Organising Chairman. After that, the dance performance from SMK Pantai and dinner was served. The night continues with the address by Guest of Honour, and then a souvenir is presented to the Guest of Honour by the JCI Labuan President, JC Joyce Tan.

Next is the address by Outgoing President and presentation of token of appreciation to the Board of Directors of year 2007 by the Outgoing President, JC Teo Seh Ai.

Then the announcement of the chapter awards by JCI Labuan Past President JC Goh Yen Chong. The “Most Outstanding New Member Award for year 2007” goes to JC Jerry Teo, as for “Outstanding Participant Award 2007” won by JC William Yap and the Sudoku Inter-School Competition (Organising Chairman-JC Goh Boon Chea) got the “Most Outstanding Project for year 2007”.

Later, is the Induction of new members by the NEVP, JC Bonnaventure Kilos. Currently JCI Labuan got 8 new members but only 6 been inducted as the 2 new members cannot attend this event.

The event continues by the Installation of the Outgoing President, JC Teo Seh Ai to the Incoming President, JC Joyce Tan. After the recitation of the oaths of office by JC Joyce Tan, the chain was passed over from the Outgoing President to the Incoming President. NEVP and other Past President of JCI Labuan were invited to the stage to be the witness of this installation.

After that, JC Joyce Tan, JCI Labuan President of year 2008 giving out her speech and then continue by the installation of her Board of Directors of year 2008. Later on, another great dance performance from SMK Pantai and continue by the address by NEVP, JC Bonnaventure Kilos. A souvenir also presented to the NEVP by the JCI Labuan President.

As for the best dress for male and female, the master of ceremony JC Michael Chan and his wife Ashley were given a catwalk example show for those contestants. This part of the event was full of joy and fun. The best dress for female won by Ms.Penny and best dress male won by JC Jacky Wong from JCI Tanjung Aru. Beside that, JCI Labuan also given out 3 lucky draws which the hamper sponsor by Datuk Francis Tee, buffet ticket by Waterfront Hotel and Labuan to KK return ticket by Harrison Trading. The ceremony end with the photo session.

Wheelchair Project (Part II) - "Special love and care to a special person."














The Wheelchair Project was carried out at 10am at Labuan, Sea Sport Complex. JCI Labuan had invited Datuk Hj. Yussof Mahal, the parliament of Labuan F.T. to be the witness and the Guest of Honour for this event. This event was started on time.

6 wheel chairs have been given out during this event. We had invited the kids’ lion dance team to perform on stage and also the Kompang team from UMS students. The kids’ lion dance team had donated RM1,200 to the disadvantaged peoples. Datuk Hj. Yussof Mahal also has given RM50 for each kid of the lion dance for their great performance.

After that, we were having a quiz section which open for the public. JC Goh Yen Chong had given out 3 questions about the Junior Chamber and 3 prizes have been given out for this quiz.

Extraordinary General Meeting & Second BOD Meeting

The EGM and Second BOD meeting were held at Proshop, Labuan Golf Club at 1.15P.M with attended by 15 members.

During the EGM, the Boards and members had gone through the audited account for year 2007. Meanwhile, the Treasurer 2007 is handling over files to the Treasurer 2008.

After the EGM, we have one hour break before the Second BOD meeting. During the break time, there is a photo session for the Board of Directors 2008 and 26th IAB Committees. We were also celebrating our Past President, JC Felicia’s birthday with a cake and song.







On the 2nd BOD meeting, JCI Labuan’s President has brainstorming for her membership retention planning to the boards and the Boards also agreed for the establishment of the Press and Publicity Committees. On the other hand, Members were actively presenting their proposals. Finally the Boards had approved 3 proposals to be conduct during this year. The others will be discussing again during the 3rd Board meeting.

JCI Labuan Wheelchair Project Part One














JCI Labuan President JC Joyce Tan and Wheelchair Project Vice-Organising Chairman JC Jerry Teo presented 2 units of wheelchair to the needed people during the Chinese New Year Dinner Party which is hosted by Sungai Keling Youth Association. Seven members of JCI Labuan attended the dinner: JC Joyce Tan, JC Jerry Teo, JC Teo Seh Ai, JC Goh Boon Chea, the two new members JC Kim & JC Mohd Shah and JC William Yap.

26th Installation & Awards Banquet committees

The 26th Installation & Awards Banquet committee members were setup during the 1st committee meeting at JC Joyce Tan’s resident at 8.00p.m. The date of the 26th Installation & Awards Banquet is confirmed as at 29th March 2008 and the venue is confirmed at Waterfront Financial Hotel. The theme for 26th Installation & Awards Banquet is "Purple and Pink" night, where guys need to wear pink in formal and ladies need to wear purple. Please do come to join and the ticket for the dinner only sold RM55.00 for per head!

First & Joint BODs' Meeting

The 1st and Joint BOD was held on 1st January 2008 at Conference Room, Mariner Hotel. During this meeting, the Board of Directors 2007 was hand over file to the Board of Directors 2008. Besides that, we also discuss about the plan of activities and also the budgeted income and expenses for this year. Many interesting activities had been plan.
